Shojinkan Goju-Ryu

Our Story
We teach traditional Goju-Ryu Karate as taught by the Masters of the art and
maintain traditions through the lineage of its intangible culture.

The Goju-Ryu Style of Karate is indigenous to the Island of Okinawa in Japan where this ancient art has been taught for centuries. We continue to teach the traditional ways today embracing virtues such as courage, loyalty, respect, honour, humbleness, fortitude and perseverance.
With an emphasis on learning practical and realistic self-defence applications, students also develop physical and mental strength. Our classes incorporate methods of body strengthening and conditioning, power generation, correct distancing and a basic philosophical approach to dangerous situations.
Our style integrates and incorporates both circular flowing movements with linear impactful striking attacks such as kicks, close hand punches as well as softer open hand circular techniques for attacking, blocking and controlling the opponent using joint locks and grappling methods. Our training regime instils a heightened awareness of one’s surroundings, coupled with the ability to respond decisively to threats that makes Goju-Ryu a practical and effective system for real-world self-defence scenarios.
Shojinkan Goju-Ryu is not just a fighting art, it’s a way of becoming the best version of yourself. As the saying goes, “no two snowflakes are exactly alike”. With that said, Shojinkan Goju-Ryu teaches and encourages character building that is true to one’s purpose and destiny. The skills taught at our school can be integrated into the various aspects of one’s daily life and can be seen as a holistic practice that can help individuals improve themselves physically, mentally and spiritually.
Shojinkan Goju-Ryu is open to both males and females, starting from the age of 6 and above.
